Community Service and Community Outreach is a crucial part of what makes St. Andrew’s special. The Ministry of Education has now mandated community service but we have made the work an important part of a St. Andrew’s Education for many years.
Most St. Andrew’s College students go well beyond the provincially-mandated 40 hours in a high school career, with many reaching well into the hundreds of hours. Community Service and Community Outreach have a local, national and international focus at the school. (see website for more details) Locally, we help a variety of charities either through fundraising efforst or by donating our time. Local organizations such as the SPCA and Yellow Brick House are examples of where our students volunteer. Nationally, we support a number of charities, including Terry Fox. Internationally, we support a multitude of charities such as the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and 30 Hour Famine. Our students also travel to places like Peru, South Africa and Mount Everest to work on local development projects.
Mr. Mark Service runs our Outreach group with help from Clare Kowaltschuck and Amanda Thorne, and Wendy Pries and Reverend Bruce Roffey facilitate the work done by students in Community Service. Without their passion for helping others, the programs and the student-run committees would never be this strong.
Committee Meetings: Mondays 9:50-10:25 a.m.
