The donation of securities is becoming an increasingly popular charitable donation option. Following the Canadian government's budget announcement of May 2, 2006, Canadian tax on the capital gains accrued on publicly traded securities can be eliminated when the securities are gifted to a registered charity like St. Andrew’s College Foundation.
To make a gift of securities/stock of share certificates, mutual fund units or other publicly traded security to St. Andrew’s College Foundation, please use the attached form. Please also ensure that your broker faxes a copy of the form to the Foundation office at 905-841-6911. This will help us in notifying our broker that a transfer is being initiated.

A gift of Life Insurance allows you and your family to make a more significant future gift to St. Andrew’s than may be possible during your lifetime. The principle of the program is simple but unique to St. Andrew’s within the independent school environment. Rather than just writing a monthly or yearly cheque to the School, the donor receives tax benefits for gifts made towards a life insurance policy taken out in his name by the SAC Foundation. The Foundation matches the donor’s gift. When the policy matures, usually after a 10-year period, a named scholarship or bursary award can be created. However, it is not just endowment that benefits. If the donor wishes to leave the insurance policy to the “discretion of the Board of Governors and/or the Headmaster,” the proceeds can be used for whatever pressing needs at St. Andrew’s would most benefit from it at the time.
A donation from your will is another way of lending significant support to St. Andrew’s College. Your gift provides lasting support to St. Andrew’s College while providing tax benefits to your estate. We would be happy to provide more information or sample wording to include in your will.
The acceptance of gifts-in-kind is made on a case-by-case basis. The primary criteria is that the gift furthers the school’s mission. For donations valued at $1,000 or more, the donor must provide an independent third-party appraisal from a qualified professional. Many companies match the gifts of spouses, directors or retirees, as well as those of employees. You may be able to double or even triple the value of your gift to St. Andrew’s if you are employed by one of these companies.
Ask your human resources department if your company has a matching gift program. To make your contribution grow, simply obtain a matching gift form from your human resources office and send it with your donation.
