2016 Headmaster's Card a Middle School Creation

A striking blue bird with a red neck sash amid swirling snowflakes was the beautiful image on this year’s Headmaster’s Christmas card.

The lovely image was the creation of Jack Cordingley. For the past three years, a different style and artist has been explored by the grade 6 art class in order to create a unique card for the Headmaster.

The class was given the assignment by their teacher Randi Berman last fall. This year, the boys were introduced to the work of Charlie Harper; he is known for highly stylized wildlife works. The students were instructed to choose a bird and mimic this style. The final works were created using collaged pieces of coloured paper.

There were many wonderful designs but Mrs. Berman narrowed it down to the top few to present to Mr. McHenry. After much deliberation, he chose Jack’s project, later visiting his classroom to congratulate him personally and to thank the other boys for their fine work and participation.

“Jack's piece was very well executed, “said Mrs. Berman. “His craftsmanship and creativity made his piece stand out. He also achieved excellent contrast in his piece, and showed understanding of the style of the artist being studied.”
