Perfect fall weather for Cross-Country Run
Fred Chesnut was the first winner of the Cross-Country Run in 1902 and was the first Andrean to have his name inscribed on the Wallace Cup.
Nick Shackell will have the same honour as the 2023 Upper School winner after he came in first in the Oct. 5 race. The winner of the Middle School Olympic Medal Plaque this year was Ty Pirie. The run was held under sunny blue skies as the boys raced in their clan T-shirts.
The run is SAC’s longest-standing tradition, and the Wallace Cup is our oldest trophy. The inaugural race was held in November but was moved to the Thanksgiving weekend. The present-day route takes runners through campus, but in the past, it included a stretch of Bathurst Street (where some boys decided to hitchhike part of the way).
Approximately 52 boys have raised the Wallace Cup in victory over the years; many have been repeat winners, so they only had their names added once.
While the cross-country run tradition continues, the focus has expanded to include a charitable component. As we headed into the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, the Andrean community shared a truckload of food items and diapers with the Aurora Food Pantry. Students, parents, and employees donated to this great cause.
