Olympics Here we Come!

Posted: July 27, 2012

After months of planning and rehearsals, a group of 54 St. Andrew’s musicians is prepared to depart for London where they will perform during the 2012 Olympics.

The group leaves August 2 after a final--and open--dress rehearsal Wed., Aug. 1 at 9:30 in the Dining Hall. While in London, teacher and chaperone Michael Chadsey will be posting a blog and invites the SAC community to follow along on their once-in-a lifetime musical adventure.

The award-winning Wind Ensemble, led by band director Sandi Chasson, is joined by three music alumni, some members of the School’s Pipes and Drums Band, four teacher-chaperones, and several parents – a total of 73 Andreans in all.

Sandi has created a “British inspired”35-minute program the group will perform at several difference venues, including Exhibition Road, a large pedestrian mall in the cultural heartland of London; London Live at Victoria Park, a 30,000-seat outdoor theatre adjoining the Olympic Park; at the Weymouth Bayside and Peninsula Festivals; and two performances at the bandstand inside the Olympic Park.

The last four days of the trip will be spent in Paris where the musicians have one performance at St. Lambert Square before taking in some sights and returning home Aug. 14.
