Beyond The Classroom: Tanzania

This month, 37 students embark for Tanzania as part of the annual St. Andrew’s Society for Service Around the World (SASSAW) trip. It is the largest group in SASSAW’s 10-year history.
The July 31-Aug.21 trip is led by coordinator and teacher, Mark Service, who is joined by five teachers and one Old Boy. Highlights will include a community service project in the Massai village of Le Manyatta, a Duke of Edinburgh's award gold-level trek to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, and a Serengetti safari.
All past SASSAW trips to destinations such as South Africa, Peru, Thailand, Kenya, Ecuador, Malawi, Namibia, and Brazil have followed a similar format to this one. Since the inception of the SASSAW program in 2003, over 200 students and faculty members have worked together to raise in excess of $120,000 to donate toward a variety of construction and youth development projects at schools, hospitals and orphanages around the world.
In 2013, SASSAW trips will occur during March break to India and in the summer to Madagascar.
