Sewing Centre

One of the best kept secrets at St. Andrew’s is the Sewing Centre located in the basement of Macdonald House. Antonietta Calvano and Kasia Floyd are happy to make sure the boys’ blazers are mended, buttons are sewed, pants are hemmed and Cadet uniforms are in tip-top shape and ready for the May inspection.
The boarding students who have lived in Macdonald House all know Mrs. Calvano and Mrs. Floyd, but many of the day boys and Upper School boys may not. Both women are greatly appreciated for their warm smiles and compassionate care. Mothers who leave their young sons in Mac House for the first time feel reassured that if ever their son needs a friendly ear during those first few weeks away from home – he can always come visit the Sewing Centre.
Mrs. Calvano has worked in the Centre for four years and is married to Nunzio, a longtime member of the School’s Custodial staff. This is Mrs. Floyd's first year at SAC and she is the proud mother of two young sons.
Some of the tailoring services available through the SAC Sewing Centre include: shorten/lengthen sleeves for blazers, application of crests and sports letters; taper sides/dart back for shirts; and waist and seat for pants. For a complete list of services and alteration fees, click here. This service is available to both boarding and day students. All charges are billed to your son’s account.
So the next time you realize your son’s pants need to be hemmed and you just haven’t the time or the inclination, send him in to see the Sewing Ladies! The cheerful greetings and kindhearted care are free of charge!
