All-In Weekend
Posted: September 18, 2012
On Sunday, Sept. 9, the boarding community at SAC came together for a day of games and fun in what has become the inaugural Opening Weekend Inter-House Competition. ‘Building Community’ is the dominant theme among all the boarding houses, so the idea of the ‘All-in’ weekend, social activities on Friday and Saturday night, culminating with competition Sunday, was devised to help foster this sense of community and house spirit.
The boys of Flavelle, Sifton, Memorial and Macdonald House signed up to compete in one of the following games: Ultimate Frisbee, road hockey, pentathlon, 3 on 3 basketball and soccer/baseball. Both the level of competition and the Andrean Spirit were evident, as the boys played hard and had a tremendous experience bonding with their housemates. Of course, the arrival of the ice cream truck was a highlight of the day.
The day ended with Flavelle narrowly defeating Sifton in soccer/baseball, a game which must go down as one of the classic soccer/baseball matches, perhaps of all time! In the end, Flavelle and Memorial tied for first place overall, but the experience was meaningful for everyone.
