Peter Godber fielding two scholarship offers

Posted: June 5, 2012

Texas is a state where football is the sport. And Peter Godber, St. Andrew’s College Saints’ left tackle, is being sought after by not one, but two Texas universities.

Peter was the only grade 11 football player to participate in this year’s International Bowl in Austin, Texas, as a member of Team World. At six-feet, four-inches, and weighing 290-pounds, Peter impressed with his high level of play on the field.

Based on his St. Andrew’s game films, offers were received from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and Rice University in Houston, Texas, both offering full D1 football scholarships.

“To have two such offers in his grade 11 year is an incredible achievement for Peter,” says Len Gurr, Varsity Football Coach. “His talent and commitment to the game have led to his being recognized by two prestigious institutions.”

NCAA National Signing Day doesn’t take place until February 2013. Until then, NCAA coaches can offer scholarships to the players they want in an effort to recruit them. Rice University is ranked by Forbes magazine as one of top 20 academic institutions in the U.S., ahead of such prestigious names as Dartmouth College, Columbia University and Cornell University.

On June 3, Peter was interviewed by Sportsnet 590 The Fan and if featured in a June 6 article by CanadaFootballChat.com.
