I.T. Information
OGIO Laptop Bags
Please be reminded that the School is providing new OGIO laptop bags to almost every student in September. There is no need to buy a new backpack for school. The boys who started school in September 2011 got new bags at that time and are expected to return to school with these bags. Everyone else will get their new bag this year. Current students had the opportunity to select the bag style and size before they left in June. For new boys there will be enough selection that they will get a bag they like. Other brands are not allowed because it is simply too difficult to verify which bags have good laptop bump protection.
Fujitsu T902 Convertible Tablets
Regarding the new laptops, this is a rollout year. The new Fujitsu T902 convertible laptops are fantastic, thin and light with a superfast 250 GB solid state hard drive, touch screen, longer battery life, 8 GB of RAM, and a fast Intel i5-3320M 2.6 GHz processors, with 1600x900 display resolution and Intel Advanced N WiFi cards, secondary batteries, extra AC adapter all running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
The most exciting hardware feature on this computer is the solid state drive. While we will be running Windows 7 and Office 2010 to start the year, the laptops are Windows 8 and Office 2013 certified. Both of these new releases from Microsoft promise to bring touch computing to the Windows platform.
OneNote Shares
We are coming off of a very successful year running OneNote shares in our own cloud/network environment, and we will be implementing them again in all courses. In providing these machines to our students and faculty, we are living up to our goal of “providing the future of computers in education, today.”
Secondary Devices
This is an exciting time in the computer world as we are all experiencing the decline of the traditional desktop and the growth of mobile computing in the form of tablets, iPads, smartphones, Kindles, Kobos, and other eReaders, in addition to laptops. We encourage all of our students to bring these secondary devices to school for reading eBooks and eTextbooks that are becoming available. We are encouraging teachers to select books that offer an electronic version in addition to the paper copy.
File Backup
With this being a laptop rollout year, the summer is a time for students to get all of their data off their computers and onto an external hard drive before they return to school. Students will be returning their old machines first thing in the morning on Thursday, September 6. Students should back-up all of their personal music, photos of family and friends, and any academic work they want to keep. Students should also make sure they come to school with their DVD drives, two batteries, and two power cords to hand in with their laptops. By noon on the Thursday all students will have their new Fujitsu T902 convertible tablets in their hands ready for a new academic year.
