Administration, Director of the Middle School
Middle School

Michael has been a member of the SAC faculty since 1981, initially teaching chemistry and science in the Upper School and serving as Assistant Housemaster of Macdonald House. In 1987, he was appointed Housemaster of Macdonald House, a position he held for nine years.

Mike holds a B.Sc. and B.Ed. from the University of Toronto, and he previously taught science at General Vanier Secondary School and Appleby College.

For the past 14 years, he has served as Director of the Middle School and has worked vigorously toward creating ‘a school within a school’ environment for the grade five to eight students. During this time, Michael assisted in the design of Rogers Hall, which is now home to our Middle School programs that meet the specific needs of adolescent students.  He is still excited to be able to remain in the classroom on a part-time basis where he teaches grade six mathematics.

Mike is also very involved as a coach of the U12 Division 1 Soccer team and the Under 14 Division 1 Basketball team. He has been able to offer travelling and billeting opportunities to his athletes from Victoria, BC to Halifax, NS and many destinations in between.  Michael is also the supervisor of the School’s First Lego League program, which will entered its first competitive season in September 2011.

According to Michael, “I have the best job in the world. If you’re not teaching Middle School – you’re missing all the fun in life.”

Coaching: Under 12 Soccer and Under 14 Basketball.

Co-curricular: Middle School Robotics Club and Macdonald House Model Building Club.
